IT services export increases 56%

KARACHI : The IT and IT-related services export has registered significant increase of 56 percent so far during the financial year.

Export targets for the year 2006-07 was $108 million as compared to last year's target of $72.21 million.

The country is on track for a year-on-year growth of 50 percent, said Ashraf Kapadia, President of the Pakistan Software Houses Association. He said that we are confident that we will achieve the target of $108 million set by the government for 2006-07.

With growth comes certain challenges and we need to proactively address these challenges otherwise we may not be able to sustain the explosive growth, he said. (more...)

Telecom sector poised to attract $393 billion investment by 2010

ISLAMABAD (July 10 2007): Pakistan telecom sector is all set to attract $393 billion investment by 2010 as more international players in Wimax Broadband Market would replace small internet services providers (ISPs) and local Wimax operators.

Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has disclosed this in its quarterly report saying that vision 2010 has already been presented to further develop the sector. (more...)

Cellular subscriber base jumps 50pc in 10 months

KARACHI: The cellular subscriber base has increased by more than 50 percent in the first 10 months of the current financial year and experts see the service adding another five million subscribers by the end of the next fiscal.

According to latest figures compiled by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, the number of cellular service users stood at 58.39 million by April 2007, which was 34.50 million by the end of June 2006. (more...)

Investment trend shifts from banks to telecom

KARACHI , June 26: The race for foreign investment has left the banking sector far behind the telecommunication sector, which emerged as centre of activities for foreign investment.

The major shift in the trend was due to massive growth in the telecommunication sector, which is still open to offer more to the investors.

After the acquisition of Union Bank, PICIC and Prime Bank, activities in the financial sector have slowed down while the telecommunications has recently received some good news from China and Gulf countries. (more...)

IT exports surpass $108 million target

KARACHI : Country's IT and IT-enabled Services exports have witnessed healthy growth during the outgoing fiscal year 2006-07 and have surpassed the target of $108 million, up by almost 50 percent when compared to exports worth $72.21 million for the fiscal year 2005-06.

According to the Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB), this year Pakistan 's IT and IT-enabled Services industry has witnessed tremendous growth as it surpassed its target of $108 million and have approximately touched $110 million at the close of the fiscal year. "Data reveals that the exports of computer software and information technology services has gone up," said Ashraf Kapadia, President of the Pakistan Software Houses Association. (more...)

ISLAMABAD (July 16 2007): Pakistan is most likely to become future hub of Information Technology business as world's prominent enterprises have begun eyeing Pakistan as the next market of opportunity.

Intel has already co-operated with two to three Pakistan distributors to launch its entry-level notebook Classmate PC and expects to receive orders from government and education units in the country, Digitimes reported. Satellite frequency coordination accords approved

ISLAMABAD (July 15 2007): The federal cabinet has approved the satellite frequency co-ordination agreements made by Frequency Allocation Board (FAB) on behalf of the government with satellite network administrations of Turkey, France, UAE, Greece and Malaysia, sources told Business Recorder.

International Telecommunications Union (ITU) regulates the use of orbital slots in space for operating satellite systems and the co-ordination of frequency resources for efficient inter-working between satellites of different administrations, sources said.
